I just really love good food! "MeMaw Food" always takes me back, but Ilike to think I have an open mind about food, so I love to try new things. There's not a lot I don't like. I adore cheeses and fresh vegetables, but I'm definatley a carnivore. Also, I love "to graze" over a table full of finger foods. Authentic Mexican, Spanish and all kinds of finger foods, or small plates (tapas) are really up my alley. I love a little bit of everything at one time! Also, I so appreciate the loving care a person puts into preparing something special for the people they love. We are blessed by our bounty on a daily basis.
Who are your favorite chefs/cooks?
My Mom, My grandma and my aunt Maggie are the women who really influenced me as I was growing up. I learned the basics from them and that food is really an expression of love. I would love to eat a meal prepared by Mario Batali, and I would like to spend the day with Tyler Florence.....Hmmm. I love what Bobby Flay is bringing to young chefs and I feel like I've watched him grow up. Lyndia Bastianich has been an inspiration to me since many years ago on PBS...Everything she makes comes so naturally to her and I know it must taste out of this world. She and Mario are my "Dream Team." I am really digging Anne Burrell's new show on FN. I first noticed her when she was sous chef for Mario on Iron Chef. She seems like the real deal to me. I like her obvious joy in the kitchen. Alton Brown is just genius and has taught me SO much about the chemisty of food. (And why my biscuits are like hockey pucks!)
About Me:
My husband Gerald and I have 5 sons ranging in ages 21 -30. I have been cooking since I was 9 years old and still get a thrill out of trying new dishes. I read cookbooks and cooking magazines like they're novels. Cooking is very "Zen-like" for me and I get really focused. I wish I could channel that attention to detail in many other areas of my life!
Wow... you are "really" just around the corner! Funny... small world isn't it... I travel down Tea Garden everyday on my way to my office... Keep up the good work... if there's anything I can do to contribute please let me know... stay in touch!
Thanks Lisa for those great comments. When you said GCC my old mind thought, How do you know that I go to Greenview Christian Church. Then Waalaa Great Cooks Community! I have talked to so many bloggers who have been so helpful and so very nice. You rate at the very top! Al
Hello Lisa! Thanks for asking me to be a friend! You had a "MeMaw" too? My Memaw and PePaw were the German influence in the family, with a last name like Christoffel eh! And I am still searching for lost family recipes and it is a continuing project of mine to capture the heritage and food history of days gone by!
Thank you Lisa for all the kind words, I look at this blogging thing the same way. I am also not real good with computers but I can do the basic stuff. My husband is the picture taker and the computer whiz in our house. The picture of our pooch is Sophie, she is a mini dapple doxie. She is the cutest thing ever and loves to give kisses.
