Has anyone successfully switched from wordpress.com to wordpress.org?

If so I would love to hear about your experience and what hosting company you use!

I need to make the switch soon, but am worried about downtime, and the importing process.

I've just signed up with Bluehost tonight! Am busy copying embed codes (and just finished a new logo) and was planning on making the switch tonight but after an exhausting day at the hospital and a 3 hour long staff meeting full of drama, I think I'll shoot for tomorrow!

I still have a few issues, not sure about the template (I actually bought a new one yesterday due to frustration with the current theme), and the logo needs to be redone, but overall not so bad. I was lazy and used Simple Scripts for the installation (it's similar to Fantastico but less buggy). The one thing I was very happy about is that I had my own domain originally, so I just changed my permalinks to the same format (year, month, date, post title) and they are all following me. So that is my novice advice, for what it's worth, have your own domain name!
