I imagine GCC like a house party. Here we all are in this house. Some of us are complete strangers that just happen to be passing by and decided to come in to see what's going on, some only know the person that invited them, and then there's some that seem to know Everybody.
As for the house (GCC), there's the Living Room (
Forum) where everyone seems to mingle first in Introductions and check out the open discussions. Here if you want to talk to the general crowd and you want the topic to show up on the front page, this is where to do it.
There are separate areas, more private, but NOT exclusive, like the kitchen, dining area, library, back patio around the grill. These are the
Groups. Here the discussions are narrowed to just the interested party and are really great spots to get know folks with similar stuff in common. I seem to make very good friends here & learn a lot, too.
The rest of GCC are the activities that keep it stirring.
Personal blog pages are for sharing your stuff, promoting your work, linking back to stuff you're involved with, talk about whatever you want to end up on the front page.
Members page highlights monthly Featured Bloggers on top, then the newest members back to the early adopters.
Featured Bloggers page helps us get to know each others backgrounds. Everyone who fills out the interview questions is featured for one month.
Jobs is a help wanted service fine tuned to the food service industry. It's a resource for members and for everyone who clicks to inquire on positions they're interested in, GCC gets a few cents.
Blog Directory is a work in progress.
Photos & Videos are my FAVORITE spots. They have a cool little feature in the description area that allows us to linkback our recipes to the photos/videos. See Charles McKeever's Video on Link Building to learn how.
And last but not the last idea, the
Great Cooks Radio player. Charles & I are experienced with podcasting and we felt it would be Awesome to have a radio show to highlight what's happening here, in the food blogosphere, and for interviewing interesting people, food bloggers, featured bloggers, whoever comes along.
So there you have it, Great Cooks Community.
If anyone ever needs anything, hollar for us.
